Cacao is the primary source of chocolate & cocoa. It originated in Latin America, from Colombia, Venezuela, Central America & Mexico. Shortly after European arrival, it was taken to Africa & other suitable tropical regions around the world for cultivation in ecuatorial latitudes.

The main Latin American Cacao species include Criollo,Trinitario & Forestero, in which over 150 species are recognised in Latin America. The sought after "Fino de Aroma" cacao variety grows naturally in Ecuador & Colombia.

 Our Joint Belgian-Colombian Project Work

Attached below is a joint Belgian-Colombian study project Latin Scientific primarily assisted in: Planning, co-ordinating and facilitating. The project worked hand in hand & cemented a solid relationship between the two countries alongside Ghent University of Belgium & Fedecacao - the Colombian Federation of Cacao Cultivators of Colombia. The project entailed a variety of scientific studies, analysis and surveys, hoping to understand & improve the future of cacao production of Colombia from the small scale farmer to a national level of production & export.
